Andrew Crofts Short Story competition

Things to consider, can you write a new short story, adapt an existing one, or adapt your chapters into a short story?

Andrew Crofts, author of the new Steffi McBride novel, has ghosted a dozen Sunday Times bestsellers as well as writing "The Freelance Writer's Handbook" and "Ghostwriting". Currently two of his ghosted books are in the UK non-fiction bestsellers list - one at number one, and the other at number eight.

The Competition - run by Andrew Crofts: Can you write a short story (max. 1000 words) on the theme of modern celebrity?

Consider this: If you have a short which you'd like to write or which can be adapted, why not enter with a view to developing your short story further if you win. You could even take your novel chapters and adapt a section as a short. Andrew Crofts is one of the UK's top selling writers and this is an excellent opportunity. One thing we've learned at YouWriteOn is that you never can be sure what your path to success will be: from Doug's leaping from the Top 5 to a 6 figure deal with Caligula at Random House; to Patti making the leap from print-on-demand to a 2 book deal for Bufflehead Sisters with Penguin; to Brian making the leap with A Morning Gift after being spotted in the BestSellers Chart.

Good Afternoon, any of you writers out there thinking of going in for the Andrew Crofts competition? There are many alternative routes for success these days, and I have a feeling this has the possibility to be one because Andrew is so successful at what he does and very well connected in publishing circles.

The theme is quite broad - you could adapt a short story that has previously done well that you think you might develop into a novel, or do it the other way round and take part of the novel you are developing and see if you can adapt it into a short.

I've spoken to Andrew and he's very interested in helping new writers to succeed, and, as with many things we get connected with, there is the potential of the competition going even further than what is initially offered. That depends on the level and number of entries. If there any thoughts or queries post them here, and I wish everyone who enters every success.

Ted
