I'm not really the patient type. Neither am I comfortable pandering to all this nonsense that publishers and literary agents want before they will do you the honour of pissing on your work. If you're lucky. I was considering self publishing for a while, and when my website landed a nice advertising deal I thought - this is a nice little 'Brucey' that will cover the cost. I have therefore handed over the princely sum of £1500 to Legend Press and sent them my manuscript of Longlight. That was about three weeks ago. I'm itching to get going now. I knew it advance it would take 3-4 months, but, like I said at the top...

I took a quick look at your submission here and spotted that you haven't put a comma before the person who is being spoken to. I didn't have time to read much but looked at a few reviews and saw others had pointed some grammer errors out to you. I'm not just here pointing out your faults, I'm interested for myself as I am often pulled up, too. Other than that, you are right to go for it, from the little I read you have produced a good read, I wanted to read on, but time limits prevented me. Will look out for further news from you as you progress through the process. Best wishes, Mary.

Thanks Mary - no matter how many times I edit there is always something else The feedback I'm getting now it still valuable too. I will endeavour to have it perfect before sign off, but I guess there will be something.

I thought it might be an idea to diarise how it goes blog style, hence this thread I recall a review by your good self of my work, in which you suggested that you would have liked to have been bothered with reading my opening chapters, but had washing to hang out. I hope the prospective readers and purchasers of your vanity publication are somewhat more generous with their time - and money - than you were with my attempts at writing a publishable novel.

I'd like to believe that your book will achieve all the success it deserves. Good luck.

Such bitterness! I do recall that. That was a 'joke' Lawrence. A 'joke' which I hoped was in the spirit of your work. I also said I liked it! Crikey

Must keep my nose out. Best of luck with the book.

I'm giving it one more year, then if no luck I may take the plunge. Not sure it can be called vanity publishing anymore, it seems like it is more and more the way to go, unless you are already a name, of course. Have thought of alsorts of ways to become a name, most of them would make my kids giggle, but my grandkids die with embarrassment!!! A girl has to gain some decorum as she gets older, mores the pity!!!

A girl has to gain some decorum as she gets older, mores the pity!!! Referring to it as a vanity publication is very old hat. That's not even in the equation. Self publishing is massive in the States and with changing forms of media it is a genuine alternative to the bs that publishers and agents have created on the backs of eager writers. I registered longlight.tv yesterday to promote and sell the book from.

Plus get as many local newspaers to review the book as is humanly possible. So you need a PR plan...the mroe you do up front the better!
