Many members of this site are such accomplished writers; they actually, just need confirmation of how good they are. Unfortunately, I don’t belong to them but I am addicted to writing and learning. Maybe some members feel the same and would like to form a small group of critique/discussion partners, asking the right questions, exchanging ideas and trying to offer solutions to each other’s problems. What I have in mind is not ‘technical editing’, though this may be helpful but analysing the essence, flow, and characters of each other’s story as a professional editor would. Probably this will be a question of ‘trial and error’. Should any of you feel that’s what they have wished for too, let’s get together and maybe, just maybe there will be several small groups of three or four as a result. Best, Gabriele

Hi Gabriele.
While your idea is well meaning, there has recently been some concerns over groups, real or imagined, having an effect on the YWO system. This site is designed to provide the feedback you wish, through review, although I realise it can be a little slow.
The best way to get what you want is to invite freewill reviews.
If you post on the board that you wish to exchange a freewill review you are bound to find willing parties. I would offer, but I think I reviewed yours on assignment some time ago; although if you have made any major changes I can have another look, if that helps.

Hello Gabriele, I see you have received eight reviews for your story, so you are not as new to YWO as I at first thought. Welcome anyway. What Donna says about groups is very true. I probably should have given you a similar warning. This doesn't mean you cannot make friends with people on site, I would just advised that you only free will each others work. It's good to find some people who will exchange feedback via emails. So that's another idea. As I said earlier I saw your reviews and think I know why you decided to take this route. There is a message at tha bottom of your reviews page inviting you to report any review you feel was very unhelpful or abusive. One of your reviews falls into that category, so I suggest you use it. Enjoy YWO, Tony.

Dear Donna, dear Tony, I don't complain about reviews, the reviewer you mean may have had a point, despite his army style wording. But yes for an instant I went "ouch!" I am not after points though, I really plan and hope to be able to set up a reviewing group which will work over e-mail and skype, checking the overall plot, characters and twists and whether these come across as intended. Such a group should definitely be apart from YWO and not clutter the site here. There might be someone out there who wants to learn too. It's worth a try isn't it. Gabriele

Good luck with what you wish to do, Gabriele. You won't get any points or scores that matter in the charts from a freewill, it has a star system but it is for your information only.
You can ask the person you agree a freewill exchange with to look at the aspects of your work you want to target. Or as Tony says, you could ask for an email exchange.
I hope it works out for you.
Donna
