As some people may know, I run a bi-monthly magazine. For our June issue we've managed to secure an exclusive interview with JK Rowling - subscription is free and the press release is below ...

Free online writing magazine secures world exclusive interview with JK Rowling

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling has given a rare interview to free online writers’ magazine Words With JAM, to be published in June of this year, in which she shares her thoughts on writing and motherhood, genre versus literary fiction, guilty pleasures, the Orange Prize, real and fictional heroines, e-books, and the state of her desk.

Launched in 2009 by JD Smith, Words with JAM provides a range of articles, interviews, advice, short stories and reviews aimed at writers. Its mix of humour and irreverence as well as serious guidance and opinion has been hailed by many as a breath of fresh air in the sometimes stuffy and po-faced literary world.

Past interviews and cover features include New York Times bestseller Miranda Dickinson; author of Caligula, Douglas Jackson; Booker Prize long-list author, Peter Ho Davis; winner of the 1996 Guardian Children’s Book Award Alison Prince; author of The Island of Lost Souls, Martyn Bedford; author of Girl with a Pearl Earring, Tracy Chevalier; Fingersmith author Sarah Waters; the ‘real’ Ghostwriter, Andrew Crofts; screenwriters David Nicholls and Jane Fallon; children’s author Bob Burke; author of Wanna be a Writer We’ve Heard Of?, Jane Wenham-Jones; award-winning comic book writer Dan Abnett; winner of the 2008 Ned Kelly Award, Chris Womersley; author of the Afrika Reich, Guy Saville; award-winning Emma Donoghue; and Brethren author Robyn Young.

The interview with JK Rowling will appear in the June 2011 edition along with the usual host of shenanigans with Sheila Bugler, Derek Duggan, Danny Gillan, Gillian Hamer, Dan Holloway, Perry Iles, Lorraine Mace, Jill Marsh, Matt Shaw, Anne Stormont and Catriona Troth , accompanied by features from Orion newcomer Elspeth Cooper and the first in a series of exercises by creative writing tutor Sarah Bower. The June issue will be the first available both online and in print. Despite making a paper format available, Words with JAM will continue to provide the online version of the magazine to all subscribers for free.

Words With JAM – making other magazines feel inadequate since 2009.
