What are you reading, published novel, opening chapters or otherwise
... Pure by Andrew Miller
From Amazon: The story is a deceptively simple one concerning a young engineer from Normandy who is charged with the task of overseeing the destruction of the cemetery and church of Les Innocents in Les Halles in Paris in 1785. Miller is brilliant at evoking the period, and peoples his tale with a cast of fully fledged characters whose lives react with the engineer, Jean-Baptiste Baratte. In this year of work Baratte grows as a person and this in itself is worth the price of the book, but where Miller really scores is in his subtle laying out the undercurrents of disquiet and unrest which would eventually lead to bloodshed and revolution.

What's with these Book News blasts? Is it part of the YWO's new anti Hermes Birkin defense syetem? Or an attempt at distracting the Costa ConYwocordia's passengers as the ship keels over?

The truth is I'm not reading anything but my manuscript (over and over again) and critiques of it, (over and over again) and this MB and other YWO members stories. But just arrived in the post are: Male Fantasies and The 7 Basic plots, so I hope to be reading a bit from those.

Completely lost me I'm afraid Was that too cryptic, or just globally parochial? The phrase "I am reading ..." has long been associated with University Challenge - so of course it is Paxman. Really, like Rose, I'm back to proof-reading and editing my own manuscripts, having recently finished Deaver's Broken Window - not that I've repaired a neighbour's glazing, I'm referring to Jeffrey Deaver's novel. One of Lincoln Rhyme's mysteries.

Nearing the end of 11:22:63 by Stephen King. The protagonist goes back in time to prevent the assasination of JFK. Why? Couldn't figure that out. Then towards the end there is a line which goes something like, "I didn't vote for him but I'm an American. That makes him my president. Does that sound cheesy?" "No, not at all." Next up 'Drood' by Dan Simmons.

Next up 'Drood' by Dan Simmons. Just out of curiosity, does King subscribe to the lone nut/magic bullet theory? I am an American, and there are few Presidents whose assassinations I would have prevented. I'd just want to make sure they did the VP too. The Republican especially had a habit of putting in a Prez who was a meat puppet, while the VP did the business out of the public eye.
