TED!

1. Will there be a Book of the Year as usual this year, or has it been replaced by The Next Big Thing? In other words, will there still be recognition for the best of those who have joined YWO to improve their writing and to help fellow-writers do the same (as opposed to the recent big influx of people who are just dashing off 100-word non-reviews in order to stack up reading credits quickly as possible for the competition)?

2. Since TNBT doesn’t include short stories or children’s books, will there still be the usual annual recognition for the best of those?

I’m putting these questions on the Message Board, as all the people I know who have emailed YWO recently, including those who have asked these specific questions, have simply been referred to the FAQs page.

I'm dismayed both by the quality of the reading assignments I'm getting at the moment, and by the current state of YWO reviewing as evidenced by the Message Boards, and I know I'm not the only YWO member holding back their next piece of work until after TNBT is over.

Is it just me, or do other people get irritated by special offers made to new subscribers or purchasers of services by the likes of Sky, various banks, domestic gas and electricity suppliers, which are not available to existing customers? Why should loyal customers miss out as the Companies seek to lure in new customers and what does it say for their customer care for these same existing customers?
"A,B&E", "Not In My Name" and "52FF" (flash fiction anthology) all available on Amazon Kindle

Actually it's the Grim Squeaker.
(Available from my website @ £5 each, in the form of an egg cosy or mobile cosy or ipod cosy (you get the general idea) - or just plain stuffed. All proceeds to St Goran Church Bell Fund Appeal).

I've now had a reply from Ted, saying there will be a Book of the Year Award this year. At the same time I asked if he could explian the criteria by which it is judged, but he didn't answer that.

Marc - absolutely agree.
