Does anyone know where I can get a cover designed for a book. I tried designing one myself but its not really where my creative talents lie.

And how much would one charge for this service, also will they we owed royalties?

Sorry, I don't know where you can find a graphic artist but this information might help:

If someone else other than you designs the cover and you name them as illustrator or whatever, when you register your book with the Public Lending Rights, you have to agree a percentage share of the payment you get each time someone borrows your book from a library. This applies even if the illustrator doesn't want any money. I have no idea about royalties but I think these are yours and yours alone.

Hope this helps with one part of your question.

Ben, I had my cover designed by a YWO member. She's very good and reasonable. She also designed the cover for Kimi's Secret (Johnny Vee) which you can find in the best seller chart from a few months ago. Take a look at them both and if you are interested, email me ( address on my page) and I'll pass on your details. Pam.

Ben, I had my cover for "Gnome or Mr Nice Guy" designed for me. If you like the look of it, and would like to contact the designer, you're welcome to email me for details.

I've said it before, but it's absolutely brilliant! Well done to whoever did that. Worth at least a grand, I'd say.

I can't disagree with that, Joe, but don't put Ben off! It actually cost me a fraction of that.

I had the cover for The Stumpwork Robe and for The Last Stitch designed by my daughter who runs a graphic design studio called Salt Design and Peppercorn Papers. She designs quite a lot of covers but is based in Australia.

Have a look at Facebook The Chronicles of Eirie or Facebook The Stumpwork Robe or www.pruebatten.com

It is worth getting it done professionally as it is the difference between an amateur and a professional presentation. It has to stack up against the best designed covers in the world in the retail market after all. And whilst the old adage 'you can't tell a book by its cover' is supposed to be true, I for one often pick up a book because of the cover and have discovered some wonderful authors accordingly!

I'm very proud of my "After the Eclipse" cover: my son did it! I tried loading it as a PDF, but couldn't get the hang of it...
