I studied law at Warwick University then worked for a few years for corporate banks in London. I returned to West Yorkshire and set up a business which my parner now runs, giving me time to write. I have been writing one way or another all my life, honing the craft as best I can. I truly believe there is only one apprenticeship that matters for a writer, and that is to read. Read, and be forever curious about the world and the human condition, and eventually the rest will come.
I have been fortunate enough to have been published by Pan Books in various anthologies, aided, I must say, by good fortune.
I am one of those whom cats seek out; they seem to appear from nowhere and end up as part of the family, or more accurately I end up in the role of servant, as is the way with our feline masters.
I write every day without fail, otherwise I feel the day is somehow wasted, and although I was sceptical at first, now I see the virtues of e-publishing. I would never get rid of my own books, never ever, but for any aspiring author I am now convinced that e-books are a very useful tool, though to me there's nothing like a beautifully printed volume.
My philosophy is quite simple; whatever one is doing, be it writing, painting, playing sports --- whatever --- there is no substitute for hard work and practice. Ten percent inspiration, ninety percent aspiration, somebody once said, and I cannot disagree.
I still live in West Yorkshire in the same house I bought when I returned from London, with the same partner I met when I was twenty.
